Silk Way Weekly: Abdulhaq Hammad, the director of the Taliban-appointed publications department at the Information and Culture Ministry, has accused Ismail Masha’al, a former university lecturer, of engaging in provocative activities against the Taliban government. The detention of Masha’al was confirmed through a Twitter announcement on Thursday night by Hammad himself.
Hammad stated that Masha’al had organized gatherings on the street and invited journalists, which led to his subsequent detainment by Taliban fighters for interrogation. Despite Masha’al’s alleged provocations against the Taliban, Hammad emphasized that he was treated respectfully during the process.
Masha’al, who recently resigned from his teaching position at the university in protest against the ban on women’s education in Afghanistan, had taken to distributing books to young people on the streets as a means of expression.
The incident involving Masha’al highlights the tensions and disagreements between certain individuals and the Taliban government regarding policies and restrictions imposed in the country. The detainment raises concerns about freedom of expression and the treatment of dissenting voices in Afghanistan under the new regime.
