Silk Way Weekly: Manizha Bakhtari, Afghanistan’s former ambassador to Austria, has been awarded the annual (White Ribbon) award of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
Ms. Bakhtari was awarded the White Ribbon Award on Wednesday, July 10, at the side of OSCE summit in Austria.
OSCE in a statement said Ms. Bakhtari received this award for her outstanding activities in the field of human rights, women’s rights, and issues related to freedom of expression.
Ms. Bakhtari in her speech on this occasion said, “I dedicate the award to the courageous girls and women of Afghanistan, those who resist for achieving their rights although facing mounting challenges and spire us.” And “OSCE has awarded this award to me for supporting Afghan women and girls.” She stated.
Ms. Bakhtari added that this annual award is given to one of the permanent members or one of the Asian and Mediterranean partners of this organization for outstanding activities in the field of human rights, women’s rights, and issues related to freedom of expression.
She also indicated that she would continue advocating to end gender apartheid and gender-based violence in Afghanistan.
The OSCE has a comprehensive approach to security that encompasses politico-military, economic and environmental, and human aspects.
