Culture Literature

Dialogue in the second act

By: Dehqan Zahma
Common Man: The chats we had last week were instructive for me, especially I thought about the issue of culture, but I did not reach to a conclusion.

Historian: In deed, culture is a complicated issue. It is a reality that there have been cultured and uncultured people during the history. For example, Aryans are the founders of culture and civilization in history.

Common man: I had a young friend in Kabul who was a bookworm. He said that he had read Hitler’s book under the title “My Battle”. He also said that Hitler wrote in his book that the main carriers of culture in history are Aryans only. According to Hitler, the Sami are uncultured. After listening to his words, I understood why it is an honor to be an Aryan in Afghanistan.

Observer: And many Germans regret and are ashamed of being Aryans…

Historian: Kidding me, Aryans really existed in history. Historians have proven that we are of Aryan race.
Observer: By “we” do you mean Tajiks or Pashtuns?

Historian: Of course, Tajiks and Pashtuns want to appear Aryan by falsifying history.

Common man: You know and I said that I am not fond of reading and books. But to be honest, I was and still am interested in our Aryan roots. Alas, I am not literate enough to study historical works. But I have heard that the late Kahzad, the late Ghobar and others paid attention to this issue. My same friend in Kabul used to mention Ariana’s encyclopedia a lot. My friend said that in “Ariana Encyclopedia” it is 100% proven that Pashto language has Aryan roots and that is why Pashtuns are Aryans. But some Pashtuns believe that they are descended from Bani Israel. You are a historian, what do you think about this?

Historian: As I said, it is a historical forgery and lie. What does Sanskrit have to do with Pashto? It is laughable word formations and pure history making. Persian is an Indo-European language. Whether Pashtuns are Jews or not, should be investigated further.
Common man: I have heard that human blood and genes are not different at all. So how to research?

Historian: Archaeological and historical research.

Common man: I remembered a statement by Mr. Karzai about history making and falsification of history: Mr. Hamid Karzai said in one of her speeches that “others make history, but we have real history.”

Observer: I Don’t to be arrogant, professor, history is written by the historian with the glasses he wears. I would say that the meaning of Mr. Karzai’s words is that it seems that others are busy with historical myths and only we have real history. What is interesting is that all nationalists without exception have this claim. A politician from South Africa has said that Africa, especially South Africa, is the birthplace of human civilization.
With your permission, I wanted to say in relation to this Aryanism that some historians in the late 20th century in the West have shown that the Aryans were nomadic people in the south and southwest of India. Very violent and warlike people who did not even know that they were Aryans. With this account, it seems that the wild and violent people were the founders of civilization in the history.

Historian: Culture and cultured man are not compatible with savagery. Cultural man creates culture by overcoming nature. Basically, human beings are not compatible with the culture of brutality and terror.

Observer: Again, with your permission, Professor: Wasn’t the Roman Empire, which was unparalleled in its terror and called others “barbarians”, a symbol of civilization and culture in the ancient period? And in our era, there is a ruling capitalist culture that smokes everything, but the critics of capitalism have shown that it is anti-human and breeds war and violence in its bosom.

Common man: Ah, now I understand what you mean. You want to say that wealth, power, civilization and culture are in correspondence with each other.

Observer: I have to do more research on this, but historical documents show that every civilization harbors the seeds of savagery.
And perhaps it is for this reason that a German thinker, who witnessed the horrors of the Nazis in the 20th century, wrote:
There is no document of culture in which traces of savagery are not visible.
