Silk Way weekly: Directorate of Culture and Information of Taliban for Badakhshan province has closed a local radio station in Badakhshan for violating its policies.
Mazuddin Ahmadi, the Taliban’s director of information and culture for Badakhshan province, said the radio station was closed due to violating Taliban’s policies and had aired music and Naat during the month of Ramadan.
But Najla Shirzad, the managing director of Radio Sada-e-Banowan, said the radio station did not broadcast any music.
She added, Radio Sada-e-Banowan had broadcasted some programs on deprivation of the girls from education and it likely Taliban have closed it for that reason.
Shirzad added the radio faced numerous challenges and due to Taliban’s restrictions even women employees developed their programs at home.
Women’s Radio Station was also closed at the beginning of the Taliban takeover but it resumed its activities after a while.
After the Taliban takeover freedom of speech and media activities have been severely restricted. According to the Afghanistan Free Media Support Organization about 50 percent of Visual and audio media have ceased operations and all print media outlets across Afghanistan have stopped printing newspapers and magazines since the fall of the former government.
