Genocide means acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, and racial or religious group.
Legal experts recognize that in the act of genocide the generation, power and honor of an ethnical, racial and religious group is gradually destroyed.
Elements of genocide include killing members of the group, causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group, imposing economic sanctions on the group and deliberately inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part, imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group and forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
According to the definition of genocide, historical enmity of the Taliban with Hazaras in Afghanistan, in the past and present, have been focused on deliberately targeting Hazaras.
Destroying Buddha’s Statues in Bamyan, deliberately Killing Hazaras in Mazar e Sharif and Mirzaulang, are the examples of Hazaras genocide by the Taliban. These acts of genocide have been aimed to deliberately destroy all Hazaras.
Indeed, covered bloody attacks such as Tala wa Barfak, Maidan Wardak Dare attacks, attack on the Enlightenment Movement, Kowsar Educational Center, Mawoud Educational Center, Sayed Shohada School and other deliberate attacks on Hazaras religious ceremonies that have been conducted in last 20 years by the Taliban, have been deliberately conducted on Hazaras.
Since Taliban seized power in Afghanistan on 15 August, 2021, there have been shocking reports of cooperation of the Taliban with Kochis to enable Kochis to grab Hazaras lands and take huge amounts of money under different names including compensation, land lease, blood money and money for guns.
Taliban have deliberately killed Hazaras during since they seized power for the second time in the country. These killings are the true examplesof genocide of Hazaras.
Shot and killing 14 people in Khedir district, killing and forcibly moving 27,000 people of Balkhab district, torturing and killing Mohammad Mordi and his family in Lal wa Sarjangle district of Ghor, slaughtering Mahram Alizada in Dare Turkman, are some of the examples of Hazaras genocide by the Taliban fighters which human rights organizations have confirmed them.
At the same time, legal experts say that destroying historical and cultural monuments of a specific group is considered as the example of genocide that Taliban have started in Afghanistan in general and in Bamyan specifically.
Taliban have destroyed the introduction letter of Seven Meter Buddha of Kakrak-one of the most important centers of Buddhism of Bamyan. Sven meters Buddha and 100 caves were destroyed by Taliban on March 2001. This act of Taliban was termed as the crime of the century.
Also, media in Bamyan reported that Taliban have destroyed the tablets of Salsal and Shahmam. Before this, Taliban had started rebuilding old Bazar or Market of Bamyan which is located 100 meter far from Salal Statue; but it was strongly condemned by UNESCO.
Taliban recently have taken serious measures to erase Persian tablets of Management and publications, ITC, procurement management and other departments in replace them with Pashto tables. Two days ago, Taliban erased Persian word “Danishgah” or University of Balkh University and replaced it with Pahsto equivalent.
This act of Taliban comes as the continuation of their genocide policy aimed at destroying other ethnic, racial and religious groups in Afghanistan in order to destroy their cultural and language emblems from the public scenes.
Taliban seized power on 15 August 2021 in Afghanistan. This time, they not only deliberately genocide Hazaras, but they also genocide Uzbeks and Tajiks too. Last week, they killed 16 civilians and 70 members of NRF.
UNAMA said reports on killing of war prisoners by Taliban in Panjshir look credible.
Prior to this, the National Resistance Front led by Ahmad Masoud had highlighted in its annual report that Taliban had committed terrible crimes and killings in Kabul, Panjshir, Andarabha of Baghlan, Khost of Baghlan, Takhar, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Helmand, Parwan, Kapisa, Balkh, Nangarhar, Herat, Konduz, Faryab, Badakhshan, Sar e Pul, Ghor, Samangan, Jawzjan, Khost, Paktika, Logar, Kunar, Farah, Zabul, Nimruz, Badghis and Ghazni.
According to the NRF report, 121 members of NRF and more than 2299 former ANSF members have been detained, tortured and shot and killed by Taliban.
In a recent move, Taliban detained on 20 September 2022, 14 young men in different parts of Panjshir accused of cooperating with NRF.
Local sources also reported that on 20 September 2022, Taliban detained 4 armed men and laid them on the road and covered them with stones. They had been tortured severely to the extent that blood came from their mouths and ears.
The situation of Uzbeks is not better than other ethnic groups. Taliban fighters stimulating themselves to Jinn put on fire Uzbeks houses in Jawzjan and forces them to leave their lands and homes.
Taliban have gone beyond forcibly moving and grabbing the lands of people in North Afghanistan; they forcibly marriage with young girls there. Taliban do such acts deliberately to make the people leave their homes and lands in the North and aim to destroy them gradually.
Therefore, if there is no hope for military confrontation with the Taliban in the near future, non-Pashtun ethnic groups shall document Taliban’s acts of genocide and share them with the human rights organizations including International Criminal Court and UN in order to slower the pace of the genocide of ethnic groups by Taliban in Afghanistan.
