Silk Way Weekly: Lord David Alton, Member of the House of Commons, in a twit said “Parliament group of all parties for Hazaras” which its members include Upper House and Lower House, held a meeting on Hazaras. The session was held on December 25, 2022, with the participation of specialists and researchers to discuss Hazaras situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Mr. Alton added the participants discussed atrocities on Hazaras in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Hazaras have been under genocide, torture and harassment during the recent centuries in Afghanistan. Hazaras experienced a democratic system in 21st century. Though Hazaras enjoyed equal political, social, economic rights and civil freedom, they were deliberately attacked by terrorist groups. ISK has accepted the responsibly of most of attacks on Hazaras.
After Taliban returned to power in August, 2021, Hazaras have been attacked several times by suicide bombers, though security has improved relatively in the country. Human rights activists across Afghanistan and the world held demonstrations condemning these attacks on Hazaras and urged the human rights organizations and international community to focus on Hazaras situation in Afghanistan.
The parliamentary group of all parties for Hazaras, assessing Hazaeas situation, especially Hazaras in Pakistan, said Hazaras face torture and harassment in Pakistan.
Although, there is no exact statistics about the population of Hazaras in Pakistan, according to report submitted to session, 500,000 Hazaras live in the capital city of Baluchistan State, center of Quetta. According to the report Hazaras form 2.0 percent of 230 million population of Pakistan. Most of Hazaras have fled from 1844 to 1901, during the rule of Abdul Rahman khan from Afghanistan to Pakistan.
Hazaras have faced killings and harassment in Pakistan too. According to a report submitted to the Great Britain parliament from 2014 unwards about 500 Hazaras have been killed in different attacks. Most of the attacks have been carried out by ISIS, Lashkar Jahangwi and other terrorist groups in Pakistan.
According to the report, from 2001-2014, at least 1,000 Hazaras has been killed for their religious beliefs in Pakistan. The report has added that Hazaras face widespread discriminations; it has acted as a barrier for Hazaras to enjoy their citizenship rights.
The report of the parliamentary session of the parliamentary group of all parties for Hazaras has not been publicized yet.
